Wanda Fitzgerald Obituary

On the evening of June 29, 2025, at Sovah Health Martinsville, Virginia, our beloved mother, nana, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Ms. Wanda D. Fitzgerald was called to her eternal rest.

Born on February 4, 1957, in Pittsylvania County, Va to Mrs. Lucinda Giggetts - Fitzgerald and the late Mr. Herman Fitzgerald, she was the fourth born of six children. As a child, Wanda was quite the adventurous one, never too afraid to get dirty, but always exemplified natural beauty.

Since the young years of her life, she was often found outside playing with her older brothers or working with her family in the tobacco field. She truly enjoyed whatever life gave her.

Being reared in the Spring Garden Community for most of her life, she received an education from the Pittsylvania County schools and graduated from Dan River High School, class of 1975. At the tender age of 12, she was baptized by Rev. Alexander Winchester and continued to attend and work in New Mine Creek Primitive Baptist Church, this was the start of her walk with Christ. Sis. Wanda was taught to serve Jesus and did so in several capacities; Young adult choir, Inspirational Choir, Sunday School teacher and secretary, Young People’s Usher Board, Nurses Guild, and Youth Advisor, but she really took pride in the WINGS Ministry, (Women IN Godly Service), where she was the head of the food bank for over 15 years. Every 2nd Saturday of the month Wanda, her children, Tonya Stone, Rosetta Logan, Althea Hiett, Doris Walker, and Vicky Law would distribute food to hundreds of families in the city!

Sis. Wanda wasn’t afraid of hard work; for many years she was employed by Dan River Mills and later joined the healthcare field as a CNA and began working for Hallmark Health services and Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation center where she worked for 21 years until she retired. Wanda took pride in being a homemaker, interior designer and a grandmother it was the little things in life that made her happy.

In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memories; six children: Andre Fitzgerald, Adrian Fitzgerald, Anthony Fitzgerald, Elder Antwon L. FitzGerald, Andrea Fitzgerald-Harris (Timothy) & Shakeia Graves; six grandchildren: Kei’Adra, Kadrion, Andrew and Adonis Fitzgerald, Ajay Fagan, Liam Harris; five Siblings; Mr. Donald Fitzgerald Sr (Lisa), Mr. Wayne Fitzgerald, Deacon Ronald Fitzgerald (Neely), Sis. Doris F. Walker and Deaconess Lolita Walker (Kenneth); one Uncle: Rev.
