Doris Mae Breakley (née Moyer) transitioned from this life to the heavenly home on the Tuesday, July 5,
2022. Doris was born in Spray, North Carolina on February 19, 1931, to the late Ollie Mae (Broadnax)
and John Dillard (Berkley Moyer, stepdad). She spent her childhood in Eden, North Carolina.
Doris was married to Henry Lawrence Breakley on April 2, 1948, in Danville, Virginia. From their union, 5
children were born: Margie Mae, Lawrence Willard, Barry Donnell, Jacqueline Denise and Iris Annette.
Doris retired from the Danville City Public School System in 1993 after many years of service. She was a
very special soul who loved and was loved dearly. She was known as an extraordinary cook and made it
her goal to make all those who entered her home feel like family.
Doris is survived by her husband Henry Breakley, 4 children Margie Malone (Fred, deceased), Barry
Breakley (Gayle), Jacqueline Menefee (James) and Iris Chaney, 6 siblings Luther Moyer (Richetta), Lois
Hairston (George, deceased), Freddie Dillard (Rosiebell), Lucy Dillard Blackwell, Judy Morehead (Curtis)
and Frances Meadows, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren and a host
of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
Visitation will take place at New Hope Apostolic Church on Monday, July 11, 2022 immediately prior to the
funeral (11 am – 12 pm). Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 12:30 pm at New Hope
Apostolic Church with Bishop Wallace Hairston as Eulogist. The graveside internment will take place at
Highland Burial Park immediately following the service.
