It is with deep sorrow the family of Charlie Petty Jr. affectionately known to many as “Mickey” entered his heavenly rest on November 4, 2024 at his residence at the age of 91.
Born December 2, 1932 to the late Charlie Petty Sr. and Florence Aikers in Danville, VA. He was raised by his Great-grandmother Rose Petty and attended Danville City Schools. At age 15 he relocated Chicago, IL to live with his mother and her husband. At the tender age of 17 he enlisted in the US Marines.
As a Marine he traveled to San Diego, CA for Basic Training. He was later transferred to Camp Legune. During his enlistment in the Marines he traveled abroad on ships in the Mediterranean Sea, working as a Cook. After his enlistment in the Marines he enlisted in the Army and joined the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. After his discharge from the Army he relocated back home to Danville where he worked in various positions. Most memorable was as a Cook for ARA Services and opening his own restaurant “Mickey’s Place” for over Thirty years well known for having the best fried chicken and home cooked breakfast in the Tobacco district on Industrial Ave. in Danville.
In 1955 while visiting family on his leave from the Military he met the eternal love of his life the late Constance Waller. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on September 12, 1955, they celebrated 67 years of marriage before she was called from her earthly labor in 2022.
He professed God as his Lord and Savior and became a member of Union Street Missionary Baptist Church. He faithfully contributed to their Saturday Morning Breakfast and devoted his time as a Trustee until the decline of his wife’s health and his own.
To cherish his loving memory, he leaves his daughter Florence “Marie” Jackson (Randy) and son’s Martin Petty (Alice), Charlie Petty III, Bryon Petty (Dyle) and Lionell Petty. Grandchildren Chainse Petty, Myia Petty-Davis (James), Cameron Breedlove (Montrell), Brandon Jeffries, Arteisha Irving, Shanon James, Constance Petty, Micki Petty, O’Bryon Petty, Crystal Petty, Augusta Farmer & Cory James. Numerous Great grandchildren and Great great grandchildren. One brother Ricky Petty. One Sister-in-law Anita Cosby. One Aunt Dorothy Pinchback. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Along with his parents and wife he was pre-deceased by one grandson Antoni Logan and one great-grandson Cameron Anderson.
The family will receive guest at the residence 893 Pine St. Danville, VA 24541. (Accessibility only from Chestnut St. due to Road repair)
A celebration of life is scheduled for Monday November 11, 2024, at the Union St. Missionary Baptist Church at 12 o’clock Noon with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday
